CASTALLA

Castalla is a city steeped in history, evident as soon as you catch a glimpse of its silhouette, dominated by an imposing fortress situated where prehistoric people already knew it was a strategic location
Originally configured as a defensive structure by the Arabs, it was the Christians who gave the castle its current appearance.
For centuries, Castalla was a borderland between the kingdoms of Castile and Aragon, hence the importance given to the castle. Today, the fortress is a museum space open to visitors.

But Castalla’s history holds even more military episodes, such as two battles against Napoleon’s French army, events that still live on in the collective memory of Castalla.
Furthermore, this town is intimately linked to culture, especially through the figure of the great writer Enric Valor.
Nature lovers can also find their ideal destination in Castalla. Not far away is the Xorret de Catí, a well-known height among road cyclists for its repeated presence in the Vuelta a España. Other activities such as hiking or climbing are also possible.
And if there’s physical exercise, one must not overlook the food. It’s almost mandatory to try Castalla’s gazpacho (made with crumbled unleavened cakes, mushrooms, snails, chicken and rabbit meats, sautéed tomatoes and onions, poured over a baked yeast cake). A traditional dish that locals have preserved for the enjoyment of anyone who wants to taste it today.

History, culture, outdoor activities, and gastronomy all come together in the town of Castalla.
