AYORA

FESTIVITIES AND CULTURE

Ayora offers a wide variety of attractions throughout the year for tourists to enjoy, but in summertime there is a special kind of magic.

Festivities are held from August 6 to 15 in honor of their patron saint Nuestra Señora de la Asunción and to celebrate their famous Toros de Ayora. Over 9 days, there are many scheduled events: concerts, open-air dances (known as verbenas), guided tours, bull festivals, children’s activities, marching bands and parades, floats and gastronomic competitions.

The traditional “Encierro del Torico” bull run marks the start of the festivities. The schedule alternates over 9 days: one day of bull-related activities, followed by one day of verbenas, including performances by renowned bands, and repeat.

And then, there is “El Primer Corte de la Miel”, a highly-acclaimed festival for lovers of good food, culture and, of course, honey. This fair, held October 11-15, holds the distinction of being designated a Festival of Touristic Interest. And, after XXII editions, it may soon be designated a Festival of National Interest.

Festivals are wonderful, but Ayora has much more to offer you. For example, visitors may hike along routes such as the Ruta del Agua, Ruta de la Reina, or Ruta de la Hunde which offer wide-open natural spaces full of life and lovely scenic beauty to soak in.

For cycling enthusiasts who wish to disconnect for a few hours and enjoy the native flora and fauna as they make their way over untamed countryside, there are 3 signposted MTB routes.

Turning our eye to the cultural heritage of Ayora, this area has been inhabited since Prehistorical times, and every culture that settled here left their mark on this place. And we are truly fortunate these wondrous sites are open to the public. We recommend taking the Ruta del Hilo Rojo, declared a Route of Touristic Interest in the Community of Valencia. Along the way, you will visit the Palacio-fortaleza, a palace-fortress belonging to the Duke of the Infantado and crowning the arabesque neighborhood of Los Altos, which itself sits atop the town.

For those with a passion for the arts, Ayora also offers routes such as the Street Art route, which winds its way through the town until arriving at the Municpal Pool, where you can take a refreshing dip.

So, get in touch with our agents at the Tourist Information Office. They will be happy to talk with you and can surely recommend the activities you will enjoy the most. We can’t wait to see you in Ayora.
